PhD Research - Pulse Diagnosis Reliability
In 2000, I joined Dr. Hammer’s Master of Pulse Diagnosis Program—an intensive six-month training that significantly enhanced clinical skills and understanding. By the end of the program, students' ability to assess the pulse, interpret findings, and develop treatment plans had become highly refined and notably consistent.
This experience inspired my PhD research into the reliability of the Shen-Hammer Pulse system, with data collected at Dragon Rises College of Oriental Medicine in Florida. The study, which involved six trained testers and rigorous methodology, demonstrated that with clearly defined parameters, skilled practitioners can achieve reliable and consistent pulse assessments.
Findings from this research helped refine areas of the system and were later integrated into the Handbook of Contemporary Chinese Pulse Diagnosis, which I co-edited with Dr. Hammer.
